Sony's 4th home console, the PlayStation 4 (aka the PS4), was first released on 15th November 2013 in North America. It was then released later in the month in Europe on 29th November 2013 and then later still in Japan on 22nd February 2014.
Later in the PlayStation 4's life on 7th September 2016, the PlayStation 4 slim was announced as a revision to the original console. The slim was a lighter and more compact version of he PlayStation 4, with some changes to its aesthetics, including a matte finish. It was released just a week after its announcement.
The PlayStation 4 Pro was announced the same day as the PlayStation 4 slim but was released world wide on the later date of 10 November 2016. The Pro was a hardware revision of the PlayStation 4, allowing to be capable of 4k rendering and overall improved performance.
In May 2018 Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO (John Kodera) mentioned that the PlayStation 4 was nearing the end of its lifecycle, the time when Sony would stop developing and supporting the console.
